Some people tell me: “Joëlle, you’re a dreamer!” ˜ Indeed I am a dreamer and it’s obvious that you can view it in my paintings.
I immortalise my subconscious thoughts and moods on my canvas while I’m painting. It starts with fast semi-abstract drawings, which can lead to new associations. Lines start to become interwoven.
I create a kind of diary in which my story, dreams, questions, worries, love, passion and observations are intuitively and instinctively transferred. They also represent a form of personal symbolism.
The paintings have an elusive character, which refer to a world of dreams, poetry and the subconscious. My paintings are characterised by colourfulness, vitality and spontaneity.
The drawings/forms are playful, mystical, hovering, semi-abstract with associative links to the tangible world. It’s an adventurous playground where fantasised poetic suggestive forms, and colours with a huge number of possible meanings meet.
The images float between figurative, abstract and fluent lines, and invite to dream and fantasise.
The paintings are filled with poetry and are living from the colourfulness of the lines.
The different elements in the work are communicating with each other.
Inspiration: Forms ‘accidentally’ coming into being, and thoughts as well as feelings that are hidden in the subconscious.
Colour, fantasy, the symbolic expressive power, and playful poetic metaphors are very important in my creations.
The carved drawings, created spontaneously with paint or gesso, come to live with acryl paint, oil pastel and/or wax and interlink into different transparent layers to create more depth. Painting with my fingers allows me to mix the colours in a playful way. Doing so, I feel immensely free and interconnected with my inner Self.
